Job Description

New Directions Education are currently registering supply teachers for Additional Learning Needs schools in and around Swansea. We are seeking Teachers who have experience working along side Children with Additional Learning needs who seek the flexibility of supply work. We are able to work to your requirements on the amount of days you wish to work and are also able to offer half day bookings which could either be morning or afternoon sessions. Supply positions will be on offer once your file has become compliant and we will be able to offer work for as long as you wish

We welcome applicants who have particular experience in working with children classified as having:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Dyslexia
  • Dyspraxia
  • Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Profound and Moderate Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
  • Severe Learning Difficulties
  • Physical Disabilities (PD).

and also:

  • Have gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and are registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC);
  • Are able to teach all age groups and utilise the outdoor classroom effectively;
  • Are available at short notice for last minute sickness cover requirements;
  • Seek the flexibility of supply work and are suited towards the temporary nature of placements.

New Directions will be able to provide you with supply placements in a variety of schools or if you prefer to limit or select schools you wish to work in this can be arranged when you register. New Directions are able to offer short term placements on a regular basis which can sometimes lead to long term cover if this is an area of interest to you. We are also able to offer free training courses to support your career development. You will have access to free training webinars and our Recommend a Friend Scheme where you could receive up to £250 per referral.

Job Specification

Your role as an Additional Learning Needs Teacher will be varied and at times challenging. But we doubt you’ll find a more satisfying career where your main objectives will be to develop the children and prepare them for the next stage.

As a Additional Learning Needs Teacher you’ll be expected to:

  • Teach all areas of the school curriculum 
  • Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive teaching environment
  • Plan, prepare and teach lessons that cater for all student ability ranges
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
  • Maintain discipline
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
  • Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • Liaise with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly within smaller schools.
