New Directions are recruiting for a cooking technician to provide vital operational, technical, and maintenance support in food technology in a secondary school in Carmarthenshire. You will be expected to ensure the environment is safe, equipment is fully operational, and ingredients are prepared and stocked for practical sessions or product testing. This is a full time role to start as soon as possible.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, food research, or a relevant educational environment.
Certifications: Often requires a Level 1 or Level 2 Food Hygiene / Food Safety Certificate. Enhanced DBS checks are mandatory for school-based roles.
Technical Skills: Working knowledge of mathematical concepts (ratios/proportions) and the ability to operate standard catering appliances.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Support: Assist teaching staff, chefs, or food scientists with practical activities and provide students with guidance on using appliances and utensils.
Lesson & Trial Preparation: Set up equipment, measure ingredients, and arrange components for classes, demonstrations, or testing trials.
Stock & Inventory Management: Order groceries, manage stock control, ensure proper food storage, and handle stock rotation to prevent waste.
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure work surfaces, freezers, and storage areas are sanitized and adhere to Food Hygiene, COSHH, and Health & Safety regulations.
