Contract Type: Day to day cover (2 to 5 days per week)

We are seeking engaging and dependable Cover Teachers to join the dedicated team at an autism-specific special school. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is committed to providing outstanding educational experiences for children with complex needs and enjoys working in a rewarding and supportive environment.

The pupils have a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and may also present with additional needs, including:

• Behaviour that challenges
• Emotional dysregulation
• Sensory processing needs and sensory dysregulation
• Communication and interaction difficulties
• Learning difficulties and developmental delays

The Role

As a Cover Teacher, you will be responsible for leading a class throughout the school day, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining high standards of teaching and behaviour support.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering lessons in line with the absent teacher’s planning and curriculum expectations.
• Leading and managing the classroom effectively throughout the day.
• Providing a safe, structured and engaging learning environment for pupils with autism and additional needs.
• Supporting pupils’ social, emotional and sensory needs using agreed strategies and approaches.
• Managing and directing a team of Teaching Assistants to ensure pupils receive appropriate support.
• Implementing behaviour support plans and responding appropriately to behaviours that challenge.
• Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Maintaining high expectations whilst adapting teaching approaches to meet individual needs.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
• Has experience of working with children and young people with SEND, particularly autism.
• Is reliable, dependable and professional.
• Is flexible and able to adapt quickly to different classes, age groups and situations.
• Has strong classroom management skills.
• Can confidently lead and support a team of Teaching Assistants.
• Demonstrates patience, resilience and a nurturing approach.
• Has a good understanding of autism, sensory needs and emotional regulation.
• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or we can put one in place for you)
• Two satisfactory references covering a minimum of two years
