New Directions Education are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate EAL Teaching Assistant to support students whose first language is not English at one of Secondary Schools in Levenshulme. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher to provide tailored support to individual students or small groups, helping them overcome language barriers and develop their confidence in using English.
The role is to start in September 2025 on a full time basis and is a permanent vacancy.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the planning and delivery of tailored support for EAL students in the classroom.
Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with varying levels of English proficiency.
Help students develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English.
Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt resources and lesson plans to meet the needs of EAL learners.
Support students in their social and emotional development, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Monitor and track the progress of EAL students, providing feedback to teachers and parents when required.
Assist with the creation of visual aids, resources, and learning materials to enhance language acquisition.
Person Specification:
Has a passion for working with children and a strong commitment to supporting EAL students.
Has experience working with students who speak English as an additional language (desirable but not essential).
Has good communication skills and is able to explain concepts clearly and effectively.
Is patient, empathetic, and able to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Holds a relevant qualification (e.g., TA qualification, CELTA, TESOL) or is willing to undertake professional development in EAL support (desirable).
Fluency in a second language is an advantage, though not essential.
