Are you calm, resilient and passionate about making a difference to a child’s life?

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil within a welcoming mainstream primary school.

The child has a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) alongside Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Due to their lived experiences, they can at times present with highly challenging behaviour. We are therefore looking for an individual with excellent behaviour management skills, patience, emotional resilience and a genuine commitment to building positive, trusting relationships.

This is a rewarding opportunity to have a significant impact on a child’s educational journey, helping them to develop confidence, self-regulation skills and positive engagement with learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Build a strong, nurturing and professional relationship with the pupil.
  • Support the child’s social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies in line with school policies and individual support plans.
  • Help the pupil access learning activities and achieve their academic potential.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SEND staff, outside agencies and parents/carers.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to observations and record keeping.
  • Promote inclusion and encourage positive interactions with peers.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs and/or Autism.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
  • The ability to identify and respond appropriately to emotional and behavioural triggers.
  • Experience working within a primary school setting is desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification would be advantageous but are not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or we can put one in place for you)
  • Two satisfactory references covering a minimum of two years
