New Directions Education is seeking a dedicated Phonics Intervention Tutor to support primary schools across the Wirral. This role is ideal for someone passionate about early literacy and helping pupils achieve rapid progress in reading and phonics.

About the Role

As a Phonics Intervention Tutor, you will:

  • Deliver targeted phonics interventions to individuals and small groups across EYFS, KS1, and lower KS2.
  • Support pupils who require additional help to meet expected phonics standards, including preparation for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and school staff to track progress and adapt support plans.
  • Use a variety of phonics schemes (e.g., Letters and Sounds, Read Write Inc., Little Wandle) to deliver effective, engaging sessions.
  • Provide feedback and maintain accurate pupil progress records.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience delivering phonics or early literacy support in primary settings.
  • Understands systematic synthetic phonics approaches.
  • Is confident working with pupils of mixed abilities, including those with SEND.
  • Is enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to helping children succeed.
  • Holds an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or is willing to obtain one).

Job Specification

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

  • NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
  • NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
  • CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
  • BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.
