Job Description

New Directions are working on behalf of a Salford Primary school to find a caretaker to start with immediate effect. The role is 7am – 2pm Monday to Friday. **This role is exclusively aimed at candidates who have previous experience caretaker/ maintenance experience **

The Role:
As our School Caretaker, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, security, and smooth running of the school. You will be responsible for the general maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of the school building and grounds, creating a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the school premises, ensuring security protocols are followed
  • Carry out regular checks and minor repairs of school buildings, furniture, and equipment
  • Maintain the school grounds, including gardens, pathways, and outdoor play areas
  • Liaise with contractors and service providers when necessary
  • Respond to emergency situations promptly and efficiently
  • Support school events by setting up rooms and equipment as required
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, or maintenance (desirable but not essential)
  • Practical skills in basic DIY, plumbing, or electrical work (a plus)
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work independently
  • A proactive, reliable, and flexible attitude
