Job Description

New Directions Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist secondary provision in Fazakerley, Liverpool. This is a full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

The Role:

  • Full-time position supporting students aged 11–16 with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored learning activities, manage behaviour positively, and promote student engagement.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils develop social skills, emotional resilience, and academic confidence.
  • Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour plans, and therapeutic strategies.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, ideally within a school or alternative provision setting.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Team Teach, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
  • Able to provide a school or child-based reference within the last 5 years.
