About the School We are working with a nurturing and inclusive SEND school based in Wirral, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). Pupils follow a personalised curriculum rooted in the EYFS and primary frameworks, tailored to meet a wide range of complex needs.
Students present with diverse needs including Physical Disabilities, Autism, Down Syndrome, and Complex Medical requirements such as Stoma Care, PEG feeding, and tracheostomy support. They pride themselves on creating a safe, stimulating, and compassionate environment where every child can thrive.
The Role New Directions are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals from a care background who are looking to transition into an educational setting. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ learning, communication, personal care, and overall wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
Support pupils with PMLD in both classroom and sensory-based learning environments
Assist with personal care and toileting
Work alongside teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning plans
Support communication using a range of methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton, sensory cues)
Ensure the safety and dignity of all pupils at all times
Assist with mobility and physical support where required
Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A background in care (e.g. support work, healthcare, residential care)
Experience supporting individuals with complex needs (desirable but not essential)
A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
A willingness to learn and undertake training in medical and educational support
Strong teamwork and communication skills
A valid DBS registered on the Update Service (preferably, or prepared to pay for a DBS application)
