Job Purpose

We are currently looking for a compassionate and dependable SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), complex needs and additional learning needs within a specialist setting in Aston.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone with relevant experience who wants to help children and young people develop their learning, communication, independence and wider life skills.

The school is looking for someone who understands that progress is individual to every pupil and who can provide patient, consistent and encouraging support throughout the school day.

For the right person, the placement could also provide a pathway towards permanent employment directly with the school following a successful placement and the required transfer period.

Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning Support

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support
  • Support pupils with SLD and complex additional needs
  • Assist with communication and interaction
  • Support sensory and structured learning activities
  • Follow individual education and support plans
  • Encourage independence and development of life skills
  • Support pupils with routines and transitions
  • Assist with personal care where required
  • Promote pupil dignity, wellbeing and independence
  • Work closely with teachers and specialist professionals
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress
  • Maintain a calm and supportive learning environment

Person Requirements

Previous relevant experience supporting children, young people or individuals with additional, complex or care needs is essential.

Applicants should also be:

  • Patient, compassionate and dependable
  • Comfortable assisting with personal care where required
  • Confident supporting individuals with complex needs
  • Able to follow individual support plans
  • Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Able to provide two satisfactory references

Qualifications

No formal Teaching Assistant qualification required.

Relevant practical experience with SEND, complex needs, care or support is essential.
