A mainstream secondary school in South Birmingham is looking for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) to support individuals with physical disabilities. The school prides itself on meeting every student’s specific needs; from a specially resourced provision for individuals with physical disabilities to making use of local alternative provisions to ensure all pupils receive the specialised support they require.
The SEND TA will work on a timetable basis, supporting various individuals at the times of the day where they need support. The school values SEND support experience as well as academic knowledge; specific subject knowledge is not required, however good English language, maths and IT skills are a must.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting secondary age students (11-16 years) with physical disabilities to access their learning
Working on a 1 to 1 and/or small group basis, following the timetable provided by the SENDCo
Building strong relationships with young people to enable their engagement
Following the teacher’s planning and set activities
Providing feedback to students and to teachers as well as the SENDCo
Person Requirements
Experience in supporting young people with physical disabilities
GCSE Grade 4/C or Functional Skills Level 2 in English, Maths and IT
Ability to build encouraging relationships with young people
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or we can put one in place for you)
Two satisfactory references covering a minimum of two years
