Initially it was rather a scary thought becoming a Supply Teacher, the thought of giving up that guaranteed monthly wage was always a worry. However I knew it was a move I needed to make. I had registered with a whole range of agencies however it was clear from the outset New Directions was going to be the best choice. During the time I have worked for ND the quality of support I have received from my Branch Manager has been outstanding! Sam has been incredibly open with me keeping me in the loop when discussing placements. Nothing is ever to much trouble for Sam and her team in the Wirral office, be it advice on CPD opportunities, someone to speak to after a hard day at the ‘Chalkface’ or even a Birthday card on your big day…a great way to make a candidate feel like they are valued. When starting a new placement ND are frequently in contact to ensure everything is fine and to make sure the candidate is happy.

By far the highlight of working for New Directions has to be the support given by my branch. The team always goes that extra mile to place the right candidate in the right setting, which for me has lead to long term placements in some amazing schools. For a Supply Teacher working in different schools can just be that. You are the ‘Supply Teacher’, a person who comes in teaches the students and then leaves. However because ND take the time to discuss candidates with the school and visa versa you know you are going into an environment in which your skill set can be put to use in generating a positive outcome for all parties involved. I’ve been incredibly fortunate through these long term placements…I have seen some outstanding lessons, picked up on new and developing teaching pedagogy and made some great friends.

Dan has, right from the start, worked extremely hard to find work for me. As a result, despite being registered with 3 additional agencies, it is with New Directions, (through Dan’s complete commitment to working for you), that I have received about 90% or more of my work as opposed to the other 3 agencies over the last 11/12 months. Dan has always given me the time to discuss my reflections on different placements at different schools, (sometimes for quite lengthy time periods-I talk a lot!) without ever rushing me. He is therefore not only an excellent communicator but someone with incredible patience and an excellent listener at the same time. Dan has been very reliable and has contacted me extremely frequently, not only to offer me work, but also in response to any queries that I have had at different points in time. He has always communicated clearly the daily rate involved and the required responsibilities.

There have been many highlights. Having worked in the same school for 23 years, working for yourselves in many different schools has given me the opportunity to greatly broaden my experience of the job of teaching. I have developed a range of new teaching approaches and techniques that wouldn’t have occurred otherwise. I have met many new people. My two week placement at King Henry VIII school in Abergavenny I will always remember fondly for many reasons.

As a result I would definitely reccomend New Directions!

I have worked with New Directions for over a year now. I have only had one issue with New Directions relating to the pay structure. I was informed by other employees that their pay was different to mine. I called to speak to my account manager who was very approachable and put me at ease as I am not comfortable in these situations. She explained the pay structure to me and also reassured me that my pay would be looked at again in the near future. I was uncomfortable making the call but relieved after speaking to her. I felt that Rebecca had the relevant knowledge to answer my query while also putting me at ease. I would certainly speak to her if I have any other issues with New Directions.

I cannot praise Rebecca my account manager enough, I am currently going into my third year with New Directions. I cannot comment on one particular incident as there have been numerous occasions that Rebecca has been the best, most helpful, professional and friendly I could have.

Rebecca always goes out of her way firstly to listen to your requests, preferences for work or problems. She then acts promptly to resolve any issues immediately and professionally until you are satisfied with the outcome.

Rebecca always tries to match you to your preferred school and I know is extremely had working finding the work and selling us as teachers in he first place.

Recently I have had home issues. Rebecca was a sympathetic listening ear, made me feel at ease taking the week of at a busy time of year. Rebecca then booked the week off for me, checked on me in the week and has now prioritised me for work next week knowing I have a week without waged.
