Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 2 pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a 1:1 basis. This role is based in a welcoming primary school in the M38 area of Manchester and is full-time.

The successful candidate will act as a consistent, positive role model, supporting the pupil to engage with learning, manage emotions, and develop confidence and independence both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil with SEMH needs
  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and clear boundaries to support progress
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support plans
  • Assist with learning activities, adapting tasks where required
  • Encourage teamwork, resilience, and positive social interaction
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Monitor progress and feedback to school staff
  • Ensure safeguarding, safety, and wellbeing at all times

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or additional needs (preferred)
  • Confident, calm, and consistent approach to behaviour support
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to act as a positive role model
  • Patient, reliable, and resilient personality
  • Commitment to safeguarding children
  • Relevant TA or SEND qualification (desirable but not essential)
