New Directions is working with a mainstream primary school in South Birmingham (B31). The school is looking for an experienced teaching assistant to deliver interventions to children on 1:1 and small group basis within the Key Stage 1 classes (5 to 7 years). All children receiving interventions are on the schools SEND register and require interventions for varying reasons and needs.
The intervention activities will be planned by the class teacher who will require detailed feedback to plan for following sessions. The teaching assistant will be expected to prepare for the sessions including creating any required resources. The activities will centre around varying needs, some will be subject specific such as literacy or numeracy, others will be SEND-specific such speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) or emotional and behaviour understanding.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting reception-age children (5-7 years) with additional and SEND needs
Working on a 1 to 1 and/or small group basis, following the timetable and planning provided by the teacher, ensuring proper engagement with all activities
Supporting during lessons, ensuring high expectations
Providing feedback to the teacher
Person Requirements
Experience in supporting young children with additional and SEND needs
Experience of working as a teaching assistant
Experience of delivering interventions
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or we can put one in place for you)
Two satisfactory references covering a minimum of two years
