Job Description

The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher holding Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the ability to deliver high-quality Music lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and, where required, Key Stage 5. They will demonstrate excellent subject knowledge, effective classroom management and the ability to inspire students of all abilities through engaging and creative teaching. The candidate will have a sound understanding of the National Curriculum, GCSE and A-level Music specifications, and current assessment practices, together with a commitment to promoting high standards of achievement and participation. They will be skilled in developing students’ practical, performing, composing and listening skills, while fostering creativity, confidence and a lifelong appreciation of music. The successful applicant will be able to differentiate learning to meet the needs of all students, including those with SEND and more able learners, and will maintain a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment. Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a commitment to safeguarding, professionalism and working collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to the wider musical and cultural life of the school.

Job Specification

We welcome experienced teachers as well as newly qualified teachers (NQTs) looking to make their way in the teaching profession. We recruit throughout the academic year for music teachers to deliver from Key Stage 3 (KS3) to Key Stage 4 (KS4).

Typical music teacher duties include:

  • Using information and communications technology (ICT), and considering its application in the music classroom at all key stages
  • Improvising, composing and performing in small groups
  • Developing evaluation, assessment and reporting techniques

 

As a music teacher you’ll be expected to:

  • Hold QTS status
  • Teach all areas of your subject specialism
  • Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive teaching environment
  • Plan, prepare and teach lessons that cater for all student ability ranges
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
  • Maintain discipline
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
  • Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • Liaise with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly within smaller schools
