Job Purpose

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Erdington.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate SEN professional to lead and coordinate SEND provision, ensuring pupils with additional needs receive the highest standard of support and are able to thrive both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities – Leadership & SEND Provision

  • Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision
  • Identify, assess and monitor pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Develop, implement and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP provision
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents and external agencies
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on effective SEND strategies
  • Ensure the school remains compliant with the SEND Code of Practice
  • Monitor pupil progress and maintain accurate SEND records
  • Promote an inclusive learning environment across the school

Person Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to complete the qualification within the required timeframe
  • Previous experience working as a SENCO or within a SEND leadership role
  • Excellent knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Two satisfactory professional references

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or be willing to complete the qualification within the required statutory timeframe

Experience within a primary school setting and leading SEND provision is highly desirable.
