New Directions Education is recruiting experienced Behaviour Support Workers to work within SEMH provisions across Wakefield.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers, build positive relationships and make meaningful progress in education.

The Role

You will work closely with students who may present with challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties and complex SEMH needs, providing consistent support and helping them engage positively with learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group behaviour support.
  • Building trusting, positive relationships with young people.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Responding calmly and confidently to challenging situations.
  • Helping students engage with learning and develop independence.
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other professionals.
  • Maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.

We’re Looking For

Previous experience working with challenging behaviour is essential.

You will need to be:

  • Calm, patient and resilient.
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour.
  • Able to build strong relationships with young people.
  • Consistent and confident in setting boundaries.
  • Passionate about supporting students with SEMH needs.
  • A strong team player with excellent communication skills.

Experience in SEMH, SEND, behaviour units, alternative provision, youth work, residential care or similar settings would be highly advantageous.
