New Directions Education is seeking experienced and compassionate SEN Support Workers and Teaching Assistants to work within Post-16 Specialist Provisions across the Wakefield area.
These rewarding roles involve supporting young people aged 16-25 with a range of additional needs, helping them develop essential life skills, confidence, independence, and employability skills as they prepare for adulthood.
We are looking for dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a difference and have previous experience supporting learners with Special Educational Needs.
About the Role
As an SEN Post-16 Support Worker, you will work closely with teaching staff and support teams to help learners access education, vocational programmes, and independent living activities.
Your responsibilities may include:
Providing one-to-one and small group support.
Supporting learners with Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Complex Needs, and SEMH.
Encouraging independence, communication, and social interaction.
Assisting with life skills, employability programmes, and community-based learning.
Supporting learners with personal development targets and individual learning plans.
Promoting a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
Building positive relationships with learners, staff, and families.
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience supporting individuals with SEN is essential.
Experience within schools, colleges, specialist provisions, residential care, support work, or youth services.
A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to adapt support strategies to meet individual needs.
A genuine passion for helping young people achieve greater independence and success.
Qualifications in Education, SEND, Health & Social Care, Psychology, or related fields are desirable but not essential for candidates with strong relevant experience.
