Job Description

As a SEND Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons that are adapted to meet the individual needs of students.

You will work closely with teaching assistants, support staff and other professionals to ensure every student receives the appropriate support to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Adapting the curriculum and teaching approaches to support a range of SEND needs.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and positive classroom environment.
  • Supporting students with their academic, social, emotional and personal development.
  • Setting appropriate learning objectives and monitoring student progress.
  • Using a range of teaching strategies and resources to engage learners.
  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and wider school staff.
  • Maintaining high expectations while recognising and celebrating individual achievements.
  • Developing positive relationships with students, parents/carers and colleagues.
  • Contributing to Individual Education Plans and other support plans where appropriate.
  • Promoting independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to assessment and reporting.

About You

We’re looking for a teacher who is patient, creative, resilient and passionate about supporting young people.

You will ideally:

  • Hold QTS or have relevant teaching experience.
  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Understand how to adapt teaching to meet different learning needs.
  • Be confident managing behaviour in a positive and supportive way.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be flexible and able to work effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Have high expectations for every student, regardless of their starting point.

Experience working with students with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties or complex learning needs would be advantageous, although all relevant experience will be considered.
