New Directions are seeking a caring and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Altrincham. This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 and will continue on a long-term basis, providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 4.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide tailored support that enables the pupil to access the curriculum, develop confidence and achieve their individual learning goals. You will adapt learning activities, deliver targeted interventions and use positive behaviour management strategies to promote engagement, independence and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
The Role
• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 4 throughout the school day
• Deliver targeted interventions to support literacy, numeracy and emotional development
• Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs and learning style
• Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and independence within the classroom
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to implement support strategies and individual targets
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to support the pupil’s ongoing development
• Help create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
The Candidate
• Previous experience working with children is essential, ideally within a primary school setting
• Experience supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or those with additional needs is highly desirable
• A patient, calm and nurturing approach with the ability to build positive relationships
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to adapt learning to meet individual pupil needs
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
