Job Description

Make a Difference Where It Matters Most

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Do you have the patience, dedication and enthusiasm to help pupils reach their full potential?

New Directions Education is currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to work within specialist Resource Provisions in and around the Wakefield area. We have a number of exciting opportunities available, with schools ideally seeking candidates who can commit to full-time, 5 days per week, although part-time positions are also available for the right applicants.

These roles offer a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with a range of additional needs within dedicated specialist settings attached to mainstream schools.

The Role

As an SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with a range of SEND, including Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language difficulties, SEMH needs and learning disabilities.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEND professionals to deliver individualised support.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group interventions.
  • Encourage engagement, independence and social development.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils both within the classroom and during wider school activities.
  • Assist with behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation where required.

What We’re Looking For

-Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable.

-Experience within schools, resource provisions, specialist settings, care environments or youth work is welcomed.

-A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.

-Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

-The ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils.

-A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

While qualifications in education, childcare, health and social care or SEND are advantageous, they are not essential for candidates with relevant experience and the right attitude.
