Job Description

New Directions Education are recruiting for School Administrators to cover temporary
positions in Primary and Secondary schools. The roles available are long and short-term
temporary, covering internal staff absences such as sickness or maternity.
The working hours are full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4pm, term-time only.
As the first point of contact for the school, all applicants must be professional, with excellent
verbal and written communication skills and good customer service.
Our clients are seeking individuals with experience using the School Information
Management System (SIMS). Previous experience working in a school office, collating dinner
money and logging pupil attendance and lateness is highly desirable. Applicants without this
experience will be considered but must be able to demonstrate a background working within
Administration or Receptionist roles with transferable skills.

Job Specification

A Data/ICT Manager will be expected to:

  • Manage the organisational and process aspects of data handling, reporting and analysis of pupil data
  • Further develop SIMS and offer related IT training to staff, including follow up support
  • Maintain the school’s website and email system
  • Identify, manage and support the development of new ICT systems, networks, equipment and applications to ensure the curricular and management needs of the school will continue to be met
  • Maintain technical efficiency of ICT hardware, software and networks
  • Report to, advise and contribute to the School’s e-Safety Committee and ICT Planning Group.

Role and Responsibilities of a Data/ICT Manager

Organisation and Administration

  • Ensure that data handling, reporting and analysis of pupil data identifies pupil performance and supports the cycle of school improvement, providing data and reports as requested
  • Deliver relevant SIMS and related IT training to staff and provide follow up support
  • To assist with the production of a structured analysis of examination data to be available to key staff on their return to school in early September
  • To construct assessment templates in SIMS Assessment Manager to collect data required by the school and manage these throughout the year
  • To develop, administer and manage the school incident reporting procedures, including designing report templates, ensuring data entry is complete, production of reports and supplementary documentation for Governors and SLT
  • To be aware of the SIMS update system including importing/entry of data (ie. CAT, FFT, end of key stage data and NLF tests [new])
  • Provision of technical support for curriculum systems and advice on the application of ICT to learning
  • Develop and maintain a rolling replacement/development ICT plan for approval by SLT
  • Ensure all inventories of software and equipment are maintained
  • Manage active network components including switches and routers; install additional servers, keep the network operating system up to date and oversee the maintenance of network workstations.

 Support for the School

  • Comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • Implement and manage security measures for individual workstations, servers and networks
  • Log, follow up and implement prompt and efficient solutions to problems identified
  • Coordinate the maintenance, updating, installation and replacement of equipment and software
  • Lead on the coordination and management of the technical aspects of a school virtual learning environment
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
  • Develop constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals
  • Share expertise and skills with others
  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
  • Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience Required

  • A proven track-record working in office/school environment at a senior level
  • Experience of working within a school environment
  • Detailed knowledge of Windows 7 and 10  and iOS operating systems
  • Detailed knowledge of the Windows Server environment, standard business connectivity solutions, remote management systems and network problem solving
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification or experience in relevant discipline
  • Excellent numeracy/literacy skills
  • Effective use of SIMS and other specialist ICT packages
  • Use of specialist equipment/resources
  • Full working knowledge of relevant polices/codes of practice/legislation
  • Ability to train and motivate other staff
  • Ability to plan and develop systems
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding school roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
