Job Description

New Directions are currently recruiting for a Food Technology Technician to work in a Secondary school based in Stockport. The role is starting in January on a full time, long term basis until July 2026.

Role Overview:

The Food Technician will play an integral role in assisting the Food Technology department in delivering high-quality practical lessons to students. You will support teaching staff in preparing and setting up food-based lessons, managing stock, ensuring health and safety compliance, and providing technical assistance to students during practical sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, set up, and clean down food technology classrooms and workstations for practical lessons.
  • Assist teachers during food technology lessons, offering support to students and ensuring safe food preparation practices.
  • Maintain and monitor food stock levels, order supplies, and ensure that equipment is well-maintained and functional.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines, including the safe storage and handling of food and equipment.
  • Provide technical support for students, guiding them on practical tasks and techniques.
  • Assist with the development of new resources and lesson plans as required.
  • Support the development of students’ skills and knowledge in food preparation, nutrition, and kitchen safety.

Key Requirements:

  • A strong interest in food technology or related fields.
  • Previous experience in a food-related or technical role, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Good knowledge of food safety standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive, flexible, and solution-focused approach to work.
  • A willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a school environment or with young people.
  • A Food Safety or Hygiene qualification (Level 2 or above).
