Job Description

New Directions Education is looking to recruit a flexible and hard-working School Caretaker, to work on a relief basis in various Primary Schools in Cardiff, South Wales.

Due to the nature of relief work, all applicants must be flexible, reliable and will ideally have access to their own transport and a full driving licence, as primary school caretakers are required to work split-shifts (hours are typically 6am-9am and 3pm-6pm).

Previous experience as a School Caretaker is highly desirable but not essential; candidates without this experience should instead have a strong Maintenance/DIY/Site Management background with transferable skills. Excellent practical skills and an awareness of health and safety are essential.

The core responsibilities of a Caretaker are as follows:

• Opening the building in the morning and locking up at the end of the day
• Ensuring doors and windows are locked when the building is not in use
• Guarding the premises against vandalism and break-ins
• Key-holding
• Maintenance of heating, lighting, boiler, and alarm systems
• Ground maintenance and gardening
• Carrying out minor repair work and booking outside contractors for major repair work
• Basic cleaning duties and supervising cleaning staff
