Job Description
New Directions Education are recruiting for a pool of confident, resilient, and dedicated Cover Supervisors to work within Alternative Provision Schools across Bradford ahead of the New Academic Year (2026/2027). This is a fantastic opportunity to support learners who require additional guidance to overcome barriers to education while ensuring continuity of learning in the absence of the class teacher.
We want to hear from candidates who have:
Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an Alternative Provision, SEMH, or SEND setting.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support strategies.
A calm, patient, and adaptable approach.
Strong behaviour management skills and the confidence to lead a classroom independently.
The ability to build positive relationships and motivate learners to engage with their education.
Team Teach training (or other behaviour intervention training) is desirable but not essential.
You will be working with pupils across Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, ensuring lessons run smoothly and learners remain engaged. The role involves:
Supervising classes during the short-term absence of the class teacher, delivering pre-planned lessons.
Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
Supporting learners on a 1:1 basis and in small groups where required.
Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement with learning.
Providing feedback to teaching staff on pupil participation and progress during lessons.
Building positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and external professionals.
If you’re looking for a rewarding role where you can make a positive impact on the lives of young people within an Alternative Provision setting, we’d love to hear from you.
