Learning Support Assistant, Merthyr Tydfil

Job Description

We are currently recruiting 1:1 Learning Support Assistants to work with Primary Schools across the Merthyr Tydfil area, supporting children with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, caring and committed to making a positive difference to a child’s school experience. We are looking for individuals who can provide consistent, one-to-one support and build a strong, trusting relationship with the child they are working with.

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with a pupil who requires additional support to access learning and participate fully in school life. You will work alongside the class teacher and wider school team to provide tailored support based on the individual child’s needs.

Your role will involve helping the pupil engage with classroom activities, encouraging their independence and providing reassurance when they may find situations challenging. You may also support their communication, social skills, emotional wellbeing and behaviour, helping them feel confident and included within the classroom and wider school environment.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are:

• Patient, caring and empathetic.
• Reliable and consistent in their approach.
• Confident supporting children on a 1:1 basis.
• Adaptable and willing to respond to individual needs.
• Experience supporting children with ALN, SEN, autism, ADHD, speech and language needs or social and emotional needs would be highly beneficial, although transferable experience from childcare, care or support settings will also be considered.
• Passionate about helping children develop their confidence and independence.
