Job Purpose

We are currently looking for a friendly, reliable and experienced Lunchtime Supervisor to support pupils during the lunchtime period at a welcoming school in Great Barr.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience working with children or young people who is looking for consistent part-time, term-time work that fits around the school day.

It is also a fantastic way to build school-based experience and develop your confidence working with pupils, particularly if your longer-term goal is to progress into a full-time Teaching Assistant or SEND Teaching Assistant role.

You will play an important part in making lunchtime safe, positive and enjoyable, supporting positive behaviour, encouraging social interaction and providing additional assistance to pupils where required.

For someone looking to build a career within education, this role provides valuable experience of school routines, safeguarding, pupil interaction and behaviour support.

For the right candidate, the position also offers longer-term potential, with the opportunity to apply for permanent opportunities directly with the school following a successful placement and required transfer period.

Key Responsibilities – Lunchtime Supervision

  • Supervise pupils throughout the lunchtime period
  • Monitor pupils within dining and communal areas
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor break periods
  • Encourage positive behaviour and respectful interaction
  • Promote positive play and appropriate social interaction
  • Support children who may require additional assistance
  • Help pupils follow school routines and expectations
  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils
  • Respond appropriately to minor incidents
  • Report safeguarding, behaviour or welfare concerns to appropriate staff
  • Work alongside lunchtime supervisors, Teaching Assistants and other school staff
  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour and health and safety procedures

Person Requirements

Previous relevant experience working with children or young people is essential.

Qualifications

No formal qualification required.

Previous relevant experience working directly with children or young people is essential.

This role can be an excellent opportunity to build school-based experience and confidence before progressing towards full-time Teaching Assistant or SEND Teaching Assistant opportunities.
