Job Description

New Directions Education is currently recruiting dedicated and caring Primary Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within mainstream primary schools in the Harrogate area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about inclusive education and helping children overcome barriers to learning.

About the Role
As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with additional needs within a mainstream classroom setting. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will help ensure that all pupils feel supported, engaged, and able to reach their full potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, including autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties
-Supporting pupils to access the curriculum, adapting tasks and resources where necessary
-Assisting the class teacher with the planning and delivery of inclusive lessons
-Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and supporting EHCP targets
-Helping to manage behaviour positively, using consistent strategies tailored to individual needs
-Encouraging pupils’ social, emotional, and communication development
-Supporting children with transitions between activities and throughout the school day
-Using a range of strategies such as visual aids, structured routines, and sensory techniques
-Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff on pupil engagement and development
-Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child feels valued
-This is a varied and rewarding position where you will have the opportunity to build strong, meaningful relationships with pupils and make a real difference to their daily school experience.

The Setting
You will be based in mainstream primary schools, working either within a classroom or alongside a dedicated SEN provision. Schools are supportive environments with a strong focus on inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for individuals who:
*Have experience working with children, particularly those with SEN or additional needs
*Are patient, empathetic, and nurturing in their approach
*Have strong communication and teamwork skills
*Are adaptable and able to respond to the individual needs of pupils
*Are passionate about inclusive education and supporting every child to succeed
*Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential
Backgrounds in education, care, youth work, or support roles are highly beneficial.
