Job Purpose

We are currently seeking an experienced, organised and personable School Administrator to join a busy and supportive school office team in Handsworth.

You will play an important role in the smooth day-to-day running of the school and will often be one of the first points of contact for pupils, parents, visitors and external professionals.

This position would suit an administrator who enjoys a busy and varied working environment and can manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality and a welcoming professional manner.

For the right candidate, the position offers genuine longer-term potential, including the opportunity to apply for permanent employment directly with the school following a successful placement and required transfer period.

Key Responsibilities – Administration

  • Provide professional reception and administrative support
  • Answer telephone and email enquiries
  • Welcome parents, visitors and external professionals
  • Maintain accurate pupil and school records
  • Input and update information using school systems
  • Support attendance administration
  • Prepare letters, reports and correspondence
  • Maintain electronic and paper filing systems
  • Support teaching staff and senior leaders
  • Handle confidential pupil and family information appropriately
  • Assist with general office administration
  • Respond professionally to parent and pupil enquiries
  • Support the smooth daily operation of the school office

Person Requirements

Previous relevant administration experience is essential.

Relevant experience may include:

  • School administration
  • Education administration
  • Attendance administration
  • Reception and administration
  • Office administration
  • Administration within education, childcare, care, public services or another busy professional environment

Applicants should also have:

  • Good Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Accurate data-entry skills
  • Professional telephone manner
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Two satisfactory references

Experience using a school Management Information System (MIS) is advantageous.

Qualifications

Relevant administration qualifications are beneficial but not essential.

Previous relevant administrative experience is essential.
