To support the smooth operation of school kitchen and dining services by assisting with food preparation, serving meals, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and ensuring food hygiene and health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
Roles and Responsibilities of a Catering Assistant
Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and refreshments to pupils and staff.
Set up and clear dining areas before and after meal service.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively following training and guidance.
Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, ensuring high standards of cleanliness.
Maintain food preparation and storage areas in line with food hygiene regulations.
Assist with stock rotation and storage of deliveries where required.
Follow all health and safety, food safety, and safeguarding procedures.
Provide a friendly and professional service to pupils, staff, and visitors.
Support the wider catering team with general kitchen duties as required.
Skills and Experience to be a Catering Assistant
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.
Understanding of the importance of hygiene and cleanliness.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently when required.
Previous experience working in a catering, hospitality, or school kitchen environment.
Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
Full UK driving licence and access to transport, as assignments may be across multiple school locations.
