Job Description

New Directions are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and skilled SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in a inclusive school in Widnes starting in September. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where all pupils can thrive. Our Nurture Base offers a structured and caring setting for children with SEMH needs, supporting their emotional development alongside academic learning. We believe that with the right support, every child can succeed.

The successful candidate will work closely with individual pupils and small groups, providing tailored support to help manage behaviour, build confidence, and develop positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in the classroom and during interventions.
  • Promote emotional well-being, self-regulation, and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Assist the class teacher in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and resilience.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and the SENCO to implement EHCP targets and behavior support plans.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional behavioural needs.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour management.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow tailored support plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
