Job Purpose
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Special Needs Teacher to join an outstanding ASD specialist secondary school in Erdington on a long-term, full-time basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to deliver structured, specialist lessons for pupils with autism spectrum conditions, and contribute to a calm, supportive and nurturing learning environment. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure pupils make meaningful academic and personal progress.
Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning
Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons tailored to pupils with ASD
Create a calm, structured and predictable classroom environment
Use evidence-informed strategies to develop communication, self-regulation and independence
Assess, monitor and record pupil progress against individual EHCPs and targets
Differentiate learning to meet a wide range of needs and abilities
Promote positive behaviour using consistent, autism-friendly approaches
Work collaboratively with colleagues, therapists, parents and external agencies
Participate fully in school life, meetings and professional development opportunities
Person Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
Experience teaching pupils with ASD within a UK special school or specialist setting
Strong classroom and behaviour management skills, with an understanding of autism-specific strategies
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Passionate about supporting pupils with SEND to achieve their full potential
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Two satisfactory professional references
Qualifications
Applicants must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers and confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with relevant SEN and ASD classroom experience.
