New Directions Education is seeking dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to work within Specialist Resource Bases (SRBs) across Cardiff and the surrounding areas.
This is a highly rewarding role supporting pupils with a range of additional learning needs. We are looking for compassionate individuals who can build strong relationships, promote independence, and help pupils achieve their full potential.
The Role
As an SRB Teaching Assistant, you may:
Support pupils with a range of additional learning needs, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and behavioural needs
Work on a 1:1 basis and with small groups
Help pupils access learning and develop confidence and independence
Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans
Support communication, social development and emotional regulation
Assist with personal care where required
Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families
What We’re Looking For
To be considered, you must have:
Previous experience working with children or young people
Experience supporting children with additional learning needs, behavioural needs, or within education, care, youth work, residential childcare or similar settings
A patient, calm and resilient approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
The ability to adapt to different pupils’ needs and learning styles
A proactive and hands-on attitude
Desirable Experience
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
ADHD
Speech and Language Needs
SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health)
Behaviour support and de-escalation techniques
Makaton, PECS or other communication strategies
Personal care support
