New Directions Education is seeking dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to provide support for learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges in mainstream secondary schools across Leeds. We are looking for candidates who:
Have a strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and therapeutic behaviour support strategies.
Are trained in Team-Teach or other positive behaviour management techniques.
Show a calm, patient, and empathetic approach when working with secondary-age students.
Are skilled in behaviour management, with the ability to help young people regulate their emotions and engage with their education.
As a Teaching Assistant in a secondary setting, you will be supporting students with SEMH needs across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Your role will involve providing tailored support both inside and outside the classroom, helping students to build confidence, manage their emotions, and engage fully with their learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
Offering 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them manage their emotions and stay on track with their studies.
Assisting the class teacher in creating a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Promoting emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and encouraging active engagement in lessons.
Building strong relationships with students to provide consistent emotional and academic support.
Collaborating with teaching staff and external professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
