New Directions Education is seeking resilient, compassionate, and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to work on a full-time supply basis in specialist schools and alternative provisions across Bradford.
This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally. You will play a vital role in providing consistent support, building trusting relationships, and creating a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
Support pupils in managing their emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning.
Build positive, professional relationships that promote trust and confidence.
Assist in implementing behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.
Encourage positive social interactions and emotional wellbeing.
Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals to support pupil progress.
Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress and wellbeing where required.
Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or within education, youth work, care, or support settings is desirable.
A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting pupils.
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, youth work, psychology, health and social care, or related fields are advantageous but not essential.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
