What the Role Involves

  • Planning and delivering personalised lessons that meet a wide range of learning needs, ensuring pupils can access the curriculum at their level.
  • Creating structured, predictable learning environments that support emotional regulation and reduce barriers to learning.
  • Implementing targeted interventions, including literacy, numeracy, social‑skills programmes, and behaviour‑support strategies.
  • Using differentiated resources and adaptive teaching methods, such as visual supports, sensory tools, and alternative communication approaches.
  • Managing behaviour proactively, using de‑escalation techniques and trauma‑informed practice to maintain a safe, calm classroom.
  • Working closely with support staff, including teaching assistants and pastoral teams, to deliver consistent, high‑quality support.
  • Liaising with families and external professionals, contributing to EHCP reviews, multi‑agency meetings, and personalised support plans.
  • Tracking progress and maintaining accurate records, ensuring interventions are monitored and adjusted where needed.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous SEN teaching experience (including SEMH, ASD, MLD, or complex needs).
  • Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching for diverse and complex learning profiles.
