Job Purpose
We are currently seeking a caring and dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in Handsworth.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them to access learning, develop communication and social skills, and build confidence within the classroom. You will work closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support, enabling each pupil to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning Support
Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Support pupils with classroom learning, routines and transitions throughout the school day
Implement strategies outlined within Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs
Encourage communication, independence and positive social interaction
Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs where appropriate
Work closely with teachers, the SENDCO and external professionals
Promote a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
Monitor and report on pupil progress where required
Person Requirements
Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other SEND needs
Patient, compassionate and nurturing approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of autism-friendly strategies and behaviour support techniques
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Two satisfactory professional references
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required; however, relevant experience is essential.
