Job Purpose

We are currently looking for an experienced and engaging Learning & Behaviour Mentor to deliver targeted interventions, pastoral support and 1:1 mentoring to secondary-aged pupils.

This is not simply a classroom behaviour-management role. You will work directly with young people who may be experiencing barriers relating to engagement, behaviour, confidence, attendance, emotional wellbeing or additional needs.

You will build consistent professional relationships with identified pupils, delivering structured interventions and providing the pastoral support they need to achieve more positive outcomes.

Candidates with experience in education, care, youth work, social work, support work and other roles supporting children or individuals with additional needs can bring highly transferable skills to this position.

Following a successful placement, there may also be the opportunity to apply for a permanent position directly with the school following the required transfer period.

Key Responsibilities – Pastoral & Intervention Support

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 interventions
  • Deliver small-group intervention programmes
  • Provide regular pastoral support
  • Hold structured individual mentoring sessions
  • Identify and support barriers to learning
  • Help pupils develop emotional regulation strategies
  • Support confidence, resilience and positive decision-making
  • Encourage improved engagement with lessons
  • Support pupils following incidents or periods of disengagement
  • Help pupils successfully reintegrate into lessons
  • Monitor progress against agreed intervention targets
  • Maintain accurate intervention records
  • Liaise with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams
  • Support improved attendance, punctuality and engagement
  • Maintain clear and appropriate professional boundaries

  • Strong communication skills
