Job Purpose
We are currently seeking a confident and adaptable Qualified Secondary Cover Teacher to provide consistent teaching cover within a mainstream secondary school in Lea Hall.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher who enjoys variety. Rather than moving between different schools, you will work within one setting while delivering planned lessons across different subjects and year groups at KS3 and KS4.
The successful candidate will be confident taking responsibility for a classroom, establishing expectations quickly and ensuring pupils continue to receive purposeful learning during teacher absence.
Following a successful placement, there may also be an opportunity to apply for a permanent position directly with the school, subject to its recruitment process and required transfer period.
Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning
Deliver pre-planned lessons across KS3 and KS4
Provide effective classroom cover during teacher absence
Maintain continuity of learning across different subjects
Establish clear classroom expectations
Manage pupil behaviour effectively
Ensure pupils remain engaged and on task
Adapt activities where appropriate
Support pupils with differing learning needs
Follow safeguarding and behaviour procedures
Provide feedback to permanent teaching staff
Build positive professional relationships with pupils
Maintain high expectations for learning and behaviour
Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral colleagues
Person Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
Previous UK secondary classroom teaching experience
Excellent classroom and behaviour management
Confidence delivering lessons across different curriculum areas
Ability to quickly establish expectations
Flexible and dependable approach
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to motivate secondary-aged pupils
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Two satisfactory professional references
Qualifications
Applicants must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Previous relevant UK secondary classroom experience is essential.
