Job Description
New Directions Education are currently recruiting for Education Support Assistants across Chester and the surrounding areas, offering an excellent opportunity for individuals with previous experience working with children who are looking to move into the education sector.
This role would suit candidates who have worked in childcare, nurseries, youth work, sports coaching, clubs, residential settings, social care or other child-focused environments and are now looking to transfer their existing skills into a school setting.
Due to the nature of these opportunities, candidates must be able to commit to working 3 or more days per week.
The Role:
Supporting teachers with the day-to-day running of the classroom
Providing support to students with their learning, development and engagement
Working with individuals and small groups to support learning
Helping students develop confidence, independence and positive social skills
Supporting positive behaviour and helping students to regulate their emotions
Building strong and trusting relationships with students
Assisting with classroom activities, preparation and resources
Working closely with teachers and other school staff to support students’ needs
Creating a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Previous experience working with children or young people
Experience within childcare, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, nursery, social care or a similar setting
A genuine interest in developing a career within education
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A calm, patient and adaptable approach
The ability to build positive relationships with children of different ages and abilities
A willingness to learn and develop their experience within a school environment
The ability to work effectively as part of a team
A passion for supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing
A strong understanding of safeguarding and the importance of keeping children safe
Previous school-based experience is not essential — this opportunity is designed for candidates who already have valuable experience working with children and are looking to transfer those skills into education.
All applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check and provide appropriate professional references.
