Job Description

New Directions are looking for an English Teacher for a long-term role teaching in a local high school.  This post would require the teacher to cover up to Key Stage 3 although the ability to cover up to Key stage 4 would be ideal. This forward-thinking and innovative school have performed well in recent Ofsted Inspections and provide their pupils with excellent facilities and a wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities to enhance their learning experience.

The school are looking for a teacher able to inspire students through their passion for the subject, delivering stimulating lessons which are accessible to all.  The successful candidate will need an in-depth knowledge of the curriculum, be motivated to consistently improve standards and outcomes and have the ability to work closely with the existing department to ensure the schools high standards of behaviour and engagement are maintained.

The school is well situated for access throughout, Shrewsbury, Telford and North Shropshire.

Job Specification

Whether your speciality is language, literature or both we recruit a variety of roles in English Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).

As an English teacher you’ll be expected to:

  • Teach all areas of the school curriculum or your subject specialism
  • Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive teaching environment
  • Plan, prepare and teach lessons that cater for all student ability ranges
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
  • Maintain discipline
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
  • Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • Take part in school events and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening
  • Liaise with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly within smaller schools
