Are you a Psychology Graduate, Childhood Studies Graduate, Education Studies Graduate, or someone with a Special Educational Needs (SEN) background looking to gain valuable school-based experience?

We work closely with a number of specialist SEND schools across Chester and the Wirral who are seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Teaching Assistants to support pupils with a range of additional needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in educational psychology, teaching, counselling, social work, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, or other child-focused professions.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom. You will help create a positive learning environment, build meaningful relationships with students, and contribute to the smooth running of the school day.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Building positive relationships and establishing trust with children and young people
  • Assisting with learning activities and classroom engagement
  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Encouraging emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider school staff
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support where required

We Would Love to Hear From You If You Have:

  • A degree in Psychology, Childhood Studies, Education Studies, SEN, or a related subject
  • Experience supporting children or young people in any capacity
  • Worked with children experiencing mental health challenges, anxiety, trauma, or SEMH needs
  • Supported individuals displaying challenging behaviour
  • Experience working with students who have been home educated or are returning to education following periods of absence
  • Supported young people on reduced timetables or those requiring additional emotional and behavioural support
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach

What We’re Looking For

The schools we work with are seeking individuals who genuinely enjoy working with children and young people. The ability to build rapport, remain calm under pressure, and provide consistent support is essential.

Whether your experience comes from education, youth work, care settings, mentoring, coaching, voluntary work, or personal experience supporting children with additional needs, we would encourage you to apply.

Why Apply?

  • Gain invaluable experience within specialist SEND school settings
  • Work alongside experienced education professionals and therapists
  • Develop skills relevant to future careers in education, psychology, counselling, and social care
  • Make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people
  • Opportunities available across Chester and the Wirral
