Job Description

Are you a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

New Directions Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEND provision in Leeds to recruit a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant for a full-time position. The Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with a variety of complex learning needs, helping them to access education, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

Working closely with teachers, SEN professionals, and support staff, you will be responsible for delivering targeted interventions, supporting learning both in and out of the classroom, and occasionally leading lessons under the direction of teaching staff.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting pupils with a range of SEND, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and complex learning needs
• Delivering planned learning activities and intervention programmes
• Leading small group and one-to-one support sessions
• Covering lessons when required and supporting classroom delivery
• Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
• Adapting learning activities to meet individual pupil needs
• Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to reviews and assessments
• Building positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
• Supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence, and life skills

What We’re Looking For

* A recognised HLTA qualification or equivalent relevant qualification

* Previous experience working within a SEND school, SEND provision, or specialist educational setting

* Strong understanding of a range of special educational needs and disabilities

* Confidence delivering interventions and leading learning activities

* Excellent communication and behaviour management skills

* A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach

* A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

* Commitment to working full-time
