Contract Type Full-time, Monday to Friday (ONLY APPLY IF LOOKING FOR FULL TIME) 8:30am – 3:30pm Term-time only Long-term opportunity with the potential to become a permanent member of school staff following a successful placement and the required transfer period.
Pay £92.52 – £110 per day £462.60 – £550 per week Weekly pay
Job Purpose
We are currently looking for an experienced and engaging Learning & Behaviour Mentor to deliver targeted interventions, pastoral support and 1:1 mentoring to secondary-aged pupils.
This is not simply a classroom behaviour-management role. You will work directly with young people who may be experiencing barriers relating to engagement, behaviour, confidence, attendance, emotional wellbeing or additional needs.
You will build consistent professional relationships with identified pupils, delivering structured interventions and providing the pastoral support they need to achieve more positive outcomes.
Candidates with experience in education, care, youth work, social work, support work and other roles supporting children or individuals with additional needs can bring highly transferable skills to this position.
Following a successful placement, there may also be the opportunity to apply for a permanent position directly with the school following the required transfer period.
Key Responsibilities – Pastoral & Intervention Support
Deliver targeted 1:1 interventions
Deliver small-group intervention programmes
Provide regular pastoral support
Hold structured individual mentoring sessions
Identify and support barriers to learning
Help pupils develop emotional regulation strategies
Support confidence, resilience and positive decision-making
Encourage improved engagement with lessons
Support pupils following incidents or periods of disengagement
Help pupils successfully reintegrate into lessons
Monitor progress against agreed intervention targets
Maintain accurate intervention records
Liaise with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams
Support improved attendance, punctuality and engagement
Maintain clear and appropriate professional boundaries
Person Requirements
Previous relevant experience supporting children, young people or individuals with additional needs is essential.

Applicants should also have:
Experience providing individual support
Strong relationship-building skills
Ability to engage pupils who may initially be reluctant to participate
Calm, patient and consistent approach
Resilience
Clear professional boundaries
Strong communication skills
Ability to work closely with teaching and pastoral teams
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Two satisfactory references
Qualifications
No formal teaching qualification required.
Relevant previous professional experience supporting children, young people or individuals with additional needs is essential.
