With demand for SEMH support staff across Bradford continuing to grow, New Directions Education is seeking dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to work within specialist provisions, alternative settings and supportive schools throughout the area.

The Role

– Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis

– Help pupils regulate emotions and engage positively with learning

– Build strong, trusting relationships with young people

– Support behaviour management strategies and intervention plans

– Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams

– Encourage independence, resilience and personal development

– Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment

Essential Requirements

Previous school-based experience is essential.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have experience working as:

• SEMH Teaching Assistant
• SEN Teaching Assistant
• Behaviour Support Worker
• Learning Support Assistant
• Pastoral Support Worker
• Youth Worker within educational settings

You will also need:

• Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs or challenging behaviours
• Strong behaviour management skills
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
