We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Wythenshawe.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will play a key role in helping children to regulate their emotions, access learning, and develop positive behaviour and social skills within the classroom setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
Implement behaviour support strategies and emotional regulation techniques
Support pupils to engage with learning activities and follow classroom routines
Assist with de-escalation and conflict resolution when required
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and independence
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals
Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Requirements:
Previous experience working with children with SEN and/or SEMH needs (school-based experience preferred)
Strong behaviour management and emotional support skills
A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Relevant qualifications or classroom-based experience desirable
