New Directions is collaborating with an outstanding primary school in Sefton to fill the role of a supportive teaching assistant. This opportunity arises as the school seeks to maintain its high standards of education and student support, following a recent Ofsted inspection that recognised its excellence. You will be working within the SEND deparment of a mainstream school.
The school was awarded a “Good” rating with “Outstanding” features, highlighting its commitment to providing a high-quality learning environment. A key factor contributing to this success is the strong and visionary leadership of the senior management team, which has been instrumental in driving continuous improvement across the school.
Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:
Have excellent communication skills.
Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
Be encouraging and supportive.
Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children development.
Ensure the safety and well-being of the student.
Although the role is based around education support, due to the children’s personal needs and behaviours they require consistent mentoring, motivating and advising, as well as some counselling, so their well-being can remain stable meaning they can achieve much more in their education and work towards an more independent future.
Behaviours displayed by the children can be challenging so applicants must be prepared to practice De-escalation and calming techniques, as well maintaining an empathetic approach and understanding behaviours stems from other problems. candidates from care, sports, psychology, criminology, sociology and youth work backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Job Specification
Have experience working with children, or adults, with additional needs
Hold a L2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
Able to support children of all abilities.
Have a positive and ambitious attitude to learning.
