New Directions are currently recruiting for a dedicated Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join a local SEND school in Trafford. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and helping them to achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 and will continue on a long-term basis. The school supports pupils with a wide range of complex needs including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Complex Communication Needs and associated sensory and physical needs. Many pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require tailored support to access learning, develop communication skills and build independence.
The Role
• Support pupils with a range of complex SEND needs on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
• Assist pupils with communication using visual aids, PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies where appropriate
• Support the delivery of personalised learning activities tailored to each pupil’s EHCP outcomes
• Encourage pupils’ communication, independence, emotional regulation and social development
• Assist with personal care, feeding and mobility where required, ensuring pupils’ dignity is always maintained
• Work alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals to provide consistent support and achieve the best outcomes for pupils
• Help create a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment where every child can succeed
The Candidate
• Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is desirable
• Experience supporting children or young people with Autism (ASC), SLD, PMLD, complex learning needs or communication difficulties is highly desirable
• Candidates with a genuine passion for SEND and a willingness to learn will also be considered
• Experience with Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or moving and handling is advantageous but not essential
• Patient, resilient and nurturing, with the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
