Location: B21, Handsworth, Birmingham

Contract Type:

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday

Pay:

  • £165 – £275 per day
  • £825 – £1,375 per week

Job Purpose

We are seeking a nurturing and experienced Special Needs Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Handsworth, working within their SLD resource base on a long-term, full-time basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to deliver personalised, sensory-rich lessons for pupils with severe learning difficulties, and contribute to a warm, inclusive and supportive learning environment. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and families to ensure pupils thrive and make meaningful progress.

Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, multi-sensory lessons tailored to pupils with SLD
  • Create a positive, nurturing and stimulating classroom environment
  • Use specialist approaches to support communication, personal development and independence
  • Assess, monitor and record pupil progress against individual EHCPs and targets
  • Differentiate learning to meet a wide range of complex needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and high expectations within the classroom
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, therapists and external agencies
  • Participate fully in school life, meetings and professional development opportunities

Person Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
  • Experience teaching pupils with SLD or PMLD within a UK primary school or specialist setting
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs to achieve their full potential
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Two satisfactory professional references

Qualifications

Applicants must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers and confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with relevant SEN classroom experience.
