Job Description

New Directions Education are currently recruiting for 1:1 Learning Support Assistants across Chester and the surrounding areas, supporting students on an individual basis within primary school settings.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who have previous experience working with children or young people and are looking to bring their skills into an education environment. Experience in childcare, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, residential settings or similar roles would be highly beneficial.

Due to the nature of these opportunities, candidates must be able to commit to working 3 or more days per week.

The Role:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a student throughout the school day
  • Supporting the student with their learning, engagement and development
  • Helping students access classroom activities and the wider curriculum
  • Providing encouragement and support to build confidence and independence
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation where required
  • Adapting support to meet the individual needs of the student
  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the student
  • Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team
  • Supporting an inclusive and positive learning environment
  • Following individual support plans and school policies where required

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Experience within childcare, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, social care or a similar setting is desirable
  • A genuine interest in working within education
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to build trust and positive relationships with students
  • A flexible and adaptable approach
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team
  • A passion for supporting children to reach their potential
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and the importance of keeping students safe

Previous school-based experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with transferable experience who are keen to develop their career within education.

All applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check and provide appropriate professional references.
